Tuscany Wines – The Many Varieties
There are many wines that can be grown all over the world, and those in Tuscany, Italy are no different. Though there are some that have not spread to the rest of the world, Tuscany wines are those which are grown in that area of Italy, regardless of where else they are grown. The typical Tuscan wines that are grown in this region have been estimated at about 3 dozen unique varieties. About half of those varieties are red grape wines and the other half are white grape wines. Tuscany wines are preferred among certain wine drinkers because the flavours of these wines tend to be creamier and to have less of an oaky smell and flavour overall. As with all wines there are exceptions to this standard.
Some of the typical Tuscany red wines are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, and Caniolo. Of these varieties only Sangiovese is grown only in Italy and is a highly sought after grape. The white varieties that are grown in Tuscany, Italy are Trebbiano, Malvasia, Sauvignon Blanc, Vermentino, and Vernacce. Vermentio and Vernacce are the only two uniquely grown in Tuscany. The wines are commonly mixed to allow for more unique flavours and textures. All Tuscany wines should be a great price even for DOC certified wines. The wines should be certified to guarantee quality and taste, or they should be in a group called Super Tuscans. Super Tuscans defy DOC rules, but are generally regarded as some go the best wines that come from Tuscany, Italy.
